Murad döneminde asıl askerî kimliğine kavuşan Yeniçeri Ocağı, katı disiplinleri, tüfek kullanmadaki ustalıkları ve savaş meydanını inleten mehter müziğiyle 15. ve 16. yüzyıllardaki büyük fetihlerin mimarı ve Avrupa’nın korkulu rüyasıydı.
