Into the Night [DVD]

**** "In the grand tradition of quirky comedies, *Into the Night* stands out as a timeless classic that effortlessly blends humor, suspense, and a touch of romance. Directed by the legendary John Landis, this cinematic gem showcases a palpable chemistry between Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Pfeiffer, whose performances infuse their characters with warmth and charm. The film has aged gracefully, remaining just as engaging and entertaining nearly four decades after its release. The story kicks off during a restless night in Los Angeles, where the insomniac Ed Okin (Goldblum) finds himself caught in a whirlwind of bizarre situations after he encounters the alluring Diane (Pfeiffer), who is on the run from dangerous adversaries. This setup launches the audience into a thrilling ride through the city’s midnight underbelly, where each unexpected twist is enriched by a stellar leading cast and delightful cameo appearances from notable Hollywood figures. The exceptional bluesy soundtrack, notably featuring the legendary B.B. King, adds depth to the viewing experience, enhancing the film’s atmosphere with a creative flair that perfectly complements the outlandish narrative. The recent Blu-ray release by Shout!Select not only brings the film back to life with a crisp remaster but also offers an enriched experience with compelling bonus content, including interviews with Landis and Goldblum that provide insight into their creative processes. Furthermore, the smart script by Ron Koslow is filled with clever humor and engaging dialogue, making the film a joyride from start to finish. While some may note the dated fashion choices of the 1980s, the overall performance and storytelling resonate strongly, ensuring that new audiences will appreciate its comedic brilliance. Overall, whether you're revisiting an old favorite or discovering it for the first time, *Into the Night* promises excitement, nostalgic charm, and laughs galore." **
