Software Development Editorial Review

**** "Beginning COBOL for Programmers" serves as a commendable resource for those aiming to delve into the COBOL programming language, particularly for individuals who already possess a foundational understanding of programming concepts. The text is particularly praised for its coherent layout and accessible explanations, ensuring that readers can grasp the fundamental rules and structures inherent to COBOL. Many experienced programmers, even those with backgrounds in languages such as C/C++ and Java, testify to the book's clarity and the seamless crossover of programming principles between these languages. This makes it suitable for both novice learners and seasoned developers looking to expand their skill set to include COBOL—a language that, contrary to the myth of its obsolescence, remains relevant and in demand within certain industries. Readers appreciate the author’s responsiveness to queries, highlighting the personal touch that enhances the learning experience. The text is described as comprehensive, offering foundational knowledge, relevant examples, and practical exercises. Additionally, some educators express their intention to adopt it as a textbook, underlining its effectiveness as a teaching resource. However, while the book garners mostly positive feedback, it is noted that it could be improved by incorporating SQL database interaction, which is a critical aspect of modern programming needs. Although there's some sentiment regarding the pricing being on the higher side, the general Consensus is that the book is a valuable reference for current COBOL programmers and a great introductory guide for newcomers. **Pros and Cons:** **
